The Clyde Chronicles: How Clyde Met Mae (and Everyone Else)

(No humans. Canon‑accurate. This is the official origin story.)

Mae was patrolling the yard long before the Clyde Chronicles existed.

She was younger then — sharp‑eyed, serious, already the unofficial guardian of the backyard. Benjamin lived there too, perched on the porch railing with his clipboard, documenting “daily yard stability.”

Everything was normal.

Until the wiggle.

A strange, heroic, dramatic wiggle.

Mae froze. Benjamin froze. Even the wind froze.

From behind the flowerpot came a red dinosaur puppet head, wiggling like it was performing on a stage no one else could see.

Mae stared.

The puppet stared back.

Then it spoke.

“I am Clyde,” he announced, “and I am here to begin my destiny.”

Mae tilted her head.

Benjamin wrote: “New creature: dramatic.”

Clyde wiggled again, this time falling over sideways. Mae sniffed him. He smelled like adventure, chaos, and possibly blueberries.

Mae barked once — the “you may stay” bark.

And just like that, Clyde joined Mae’s family.

Chapter 1 — Clyde Discovers the Original Five Chickens

Clyde explored the yard with heroic enthusiasm, wiggling into bushes, under chairs, and once into a watering can.

That’s when he heard it:

cluck.

He froze.

Another cluck. Then another.

Clyde peeked around the coop.

There they were — the original five chickens, not yet part of the Chronicles:

  • Nugget — loud, confident, chest puffed.
  • Crispy — calm, nodding like he was judging Clyde’s wiggle.
  • Marshmallow — already fainting.
  • Embercluck — zooming in circles.
  • Shadowbeak — regal, mysterious, glowing with authority.

Clyde gasped dramatically.

“A COUNCIL OF FEATHERED WARRIORS.”

Nugget clucked loudly. Crispy nodded. Marshmallow fainted. Embercluck zoomed. Shadowbeak stared at Clyde with ancient chicken wisdom.

Mae trotted over, sat beside Clyde, and barked once — the “be polite” bark.

Clyde bowed (fell over). Shadowbeak clucked once — the “we acknowledge your existence” cluck.

Benjamin wrote: “Chickens: organized. Clyde: not.”

The chickens didn’t join the Chronicles yet. But they noticed Clyde. And Clyde noticed them.

The spark of future chaos was lit.

Chapter 2 — Clyde Expands the Team

Days passed.

Clyde wiggled through the yard, Mae kept him alive, Benjamin documented everything.

But Clyde felt something missing.

“A hero needs a team,” he declared one morning, perched on a rock like a dramatic statue.

Mae sighed. Benjamin braced himself.

Clyde set off to recruit.

Recruit #1 — Meep

Clyde found Meep floating behind the shed, a blue axolotl, glowing faintly and saying “meep” in different emotional tones.

Clyde gasped. “A SKY SPIRIT.”

Meep meeped. Mae approved. Benjamin wrote: “New creature: floating.”

Recruit #2 — Zyde

Zyde appeared next, crawling out of his workshop wearing goggles and holding an invention that hummed ominously.

Clyde screamed heroically. Zyde said, “It’s safe.” It wasn’t.

Mae barked once — the “fine, but I’m watching you” bark.

Recruit #3 — Seth

Seth was already sitting on the porch eating chips.

Clyde approached his brother dramatically. “Join my team.”

Seth shrugged. “Okay.”

Benjamin wrote: “New creature: indifferent.”

Recruit #4 — Matthew

Matthew arrived last, dragging a bucket, a rope, a shoe, and something that was definitely not safe.

“I BUILD THINGS,” he announced.

Clyde gasped. “A GENIUS.”

Matthew tripped over his own invention. Mae barked once — the “oh no” bark.

Benjamin wrote: “New creature: dangerous.”

Chapter 3 — The Moment the Chronicles Were Born

Clyde gathered everyone in the yard:

Mae, Benjamin, Meep, Zyde, Seth and Matthew

The chickens watched from the coop, curious.

Clyde wiggled onto a rock and declared:

“We are now… THE CLYDE CHRONICLES.”

Matthew cheered. Meep sparkled. Zyde’s invention exploded. Seth ate cereal. Benjamin sighed. Mae barked once — the “this is happening” bark.

Shadowbeak clucked. Nugget clucked louder. Crispy nodded. Marshmallow fainted. Embercluck zoomed.

The chickens didn’t join yet — but they recognized the moment.

A new era had begun.

The Clyde Chronicles were officially alive.

Epilogue — The Future Begins

Clyde wiggled proudly beside Mae.

Mae nudged him gently — the “you belong here” nudge.

Benjamin wrote: “Team formed. Chaos level: maximum.”

The chickens watched from the coop, waiting for their time.

Meep floated. Zyde tinkered. Seth ate cereal. Matthew built something that should not exist.

And Clyde declared:

“THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING.”

Mae barked once.

Everyone agreed.
